Bring a valid photo ID to the office. You will need the full name on the certificate, the date of birth, and the names of both parents. Each certified copy is $10. The office processes most in-person requests the same day. For military families stationed at Camp Lejeune, military ID is accepted as valid identification.

Jacksonville History and Records

Jacksonville is one of the youngest cities of its size in the United States. The city grew rapidly in the 1940s with the establishment of Camp Lejeune. Before the base, the area was mostly rural farmland. Onslow County itself dates to 1734, but Jacksonville's population boom came much later. Birth records from the early 1900s reflect a small rural community that transformed into a military hub over just a few decades.

For genealogy research, the State Archives holds older records. Onslow County historical records include land deeds and court records from the colonial period. The Bible Records collection at the State Archives contains handwritten family records from the coastal plain region. The county's long history provides rich material for family research, even though Jacksonville itself is relatively young as a city.
